Small Vendors Struggle for Stalls at Agartala’s Chaitra Mela

  Agartala, March 20: A large number of small vendors have been struggling to secure stalls for the Chaitra Mela in Agartala, leading to protests near the Chief Minister’s residence. Despite waiting in long queues since last night, many vendors failed to get space due to the limited distribution of stalls. Reports suggest that for the past two days, vendors have been making continuous efforts to obtain a stall, but the high demand has left many without any allocation. Frustrated by the situation, several vendors gathered outside the Chief Minister’s residence, hoping for intervention. Later, East Agartala police arrived at the scene and convinced the protesters to leave, advising them to meet the Mayor regarding their concerns.   Mangal Kavya and Puthi-Panchali Recitation Festival Organised by the Department of Information & Culture Agartala, March 20: The Department of Information & Culture organised the Mangal Kavya and Puthi-Panchali Recitation Festival – 2025 on Wednesday at the Bonkumari Samar Smriti Bhavan. The event was aimed at preserving and promoting the rich literary and cultural heritage of Bengal, particularly the traditional oral recitation of historical and mythological texts. Disabled Woman Gang-Raped in Jogendranagar; Husband Arrested, Five Others Absconding

Agartala, Mar 19: In a shocking and horrific incident, a 75% disabled woman from Jogendranagar was allegedly gang-raped by her husband and five of his friends. The police have arrested the accused husband, while the remaining perpetrators are still absconding. According to reports, the victim lodged a written complaint at Amtali Women’s Police Station on March 14, detailing the brutal assault. She alleged that her husband, Subrata Dey, conspired with his five friends to commit the crime. Following her complaint, the police launched an investigation and promptly arrested the accused husband. However, the other five suspects are yet to be apprehended. Agartala, Mar 18: Consumers from various districts of Tripura gathered at the TUDA office today, voicing their frustration over the prolonged delay in receiving their promised flats under the Lighthouse housing project at Agartala Border Golchakkar. The project, initially scheduled for completion in 2022, remains unfinished, leaving buyers in distress. The protesters alleged that despite making payments in multiple installments to the TUDA office, no significant progress has been made. Many homebuyers, who had expected timely possession of their flats, now face uncertainty. They demanded either a full refund of their payments or the immediate handover of the promised housing units.
