Tripura BJP Slams CPI(M) for Criticizing Central Flood Relief Assistance

Agartala, February 25: The Tripura BJP has strongly condemned the CPI(M) for its criticism of the central government’s financial assistance to the flood-affected state. Addressing a press conference at the party’s state office on Tuesday, BJP spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty expressed his objections to the CPI(M)’s remarks, which he described as “highly objectionable.” Chakraborty highlighted the devastating floods that struck Tripura in August last year, triggered by heavy rainfall, calling it the worst natural disaster in the state’s history. The floods affected more than two-thirds of the population, causing widespread damage.   Agartala, February 24: Members of the Tripura United Indigenous Regional Parties Council-Democratic (TUIRPC-D) staged a roadblock on National Highway 8 (NH8) in the Baramura Sadhupara area today, demanding the fulfilment of their 21-point charter of demands. The protest began at 6 AM, with demonstrators vowing to continue the blockade until the Tripura government addresses their grievances. Daniel Borok, the leader of TUIRPC, highlighted that the benefits promised to surrendered militants, including members of the NLFT and TNV, under agreements with the central and state governments, remain unimplemented. Four Arrested for Selling Drugs Near Schools in Agartala

Agartala, February 24: Acting on a tip-off, the East Police Station arrested four individuals yesterday for allegedly selling drugs near schools and colleges in the city. The suspects were apprehended from areas near Anandamayi Ashram and College Tila Lake. Police recovered 5.2 grams of heroin packed in 210 small plastic containers, along with ₹4,000 in cash, two mobile phones, and a motorcycle (registration number TR-01-AT-6646) used by the accused. The seized heroin is estimated to be worth over ₹1 lakh in the market, according to Sadar SDPO Debprasad Roy. The arrested individuals have been identified as Robin Deb Nath, Ramjan Ali, Deepak Das, and Rubel Sarkar. Authorities suspect they were targeting students and young people near educational institutions. This operation highlights the ongoing efforts of the Tripura Police to curb drug trafficking and ensure the safety of students. Further investigations are underway to uncover the broader network involved in the illegal drug trade.
