Tripura Celebrates Art and Craft Heritage with Bipul Kanti Saha State Festival

April 5, 2025, marked a significant day in Tripura's cultural calendar as Hon'ble Chief Minister Prof Dr Manik Saha inaugurated the Bipul Kanti Saha State Art & Craft Festival at Govt. Art and Craft College, Lichubagan, Agartala. The festival, revived after many years, showcased vibrant stalls from various parts and craft institutions, highlighting the state's rich cultural heritage and hidden talents in art and craft.
During the inauguration, Chief Minister Prof Dr Manik Saha was warmly received with floral bouquets and Risha, followed by the lighting of the divine lamp. Prominent dignitaries present included Director of ICA Sri Bimbisar Bhattacharya, State Cultural Secretary Sri Subrata Chakraborty, and Sri Deba Priya Roy.
In his address, the Chief Minister emphasized the significance of this festival in promoting Tripura's art and craft sector. He highlighted various initiatives aimed at developing and showcasing the state's cultural talents. Notably, the festival is named after renowned sculptor Bipul Kanti Saha, whose contributions to Indian art are well-recognized. The Chief Minister also announced plans to hold similar programs district-wise, providing a platform for local artists and artisans to exhibit their work The Chief Minister further underscored the crucial role of institutions like Sangeet Natak Academy, Lalit Kala Academy, and Sahitya Academy in fostering opportunities for the development of craft, art, and artists in modern times. These institutions, he noted, play a vital role in nurturing and promoting the state's artistic talents, and their contributions are essential to the growth and preservation of Tripura's cultural heritage.
The festival featured an array of art and craft exhibits, with the Chief Minister himself participating by creating a canvas artwork. This event not only celebrated Tripura's artistic talents but also underscored the government's commitment to preserving and promoting the state's cultural legacy.
