Focus on flood control, healthcare, infrastructure and civic development

The Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Wednesday presented a deficit budget of ₹72.02 lakh for the financial year 2025–26. The budget was tabled by Mayor Deepak Majumder during a session held at the Corporation’s conference hall.
As per the proposal, the total projected revenue and capital income for 2025–26 is ₹475.83 crore, against an estimated expenditure of ₹476.55 crore, resulting in a deficit of ₹72.02 lakh. In comparison, the 2024–25 budget had an income estimate of ₹415.97 crore and an expenditure estimate of ₹416.74 crore, with a deficit of ₹76.75 lakh.
The increase in both income and expenditure has been attributed to the launch of several ambitious development projects. The deficit is expected to be covered through internal revenue sources and government grants.
Key projects include:

Construction of 3 flood pump houses at Shakuntala Road, Ramnagar No.4, and Satsang Ashram at a cost of ₹28 crore.

Installation of new flood pumps and pipelines worth ₹4 crore.

Establishment of a modern slaughterhouse near Durga Chowmuhani market at ₹56 lakh.

Infrastructure development including electric lines, roads, and drains in expanded AMC areas worth ₹5 crore.

Construction of new ward offices and electric crematoriums in 3 cremation grounds at ₹5 crore and ₹3.3 crore respectively.

Beautification and renovation of five major city ponds at an estimated cost of ₹17 crore.

Drinking water supply improvement projects outside Tripura Jal Board coverage at ₹11 crore.

Enhanced mosquito control measures with a fivefold increase in budget allocation.

A proposed ₹10 crore 50-bed “Agartala Civil Hospital” near Jackson Gate to ease pressure on IGM Hospital, including ₹5 crore for construction and ₹5 crore for medical equipment.

Launch of “Bharat Mata Canteen cum Night Shelter” project with a budget of ₹2 crore.

Plans to construct new permanent market buildings at GB Market, Battala, Akhaura Junction, and Lake Chowmuhani.
The Mayor highlighted that all corporators are working with transparency and dedication, and efforts are underway to enhance AMC’s own revenue in the coming days.
