Addressing a press conference at the Secretariat today, Minister of Social Welfare Sri Tinku Roy highlighted the government’s efforts in uplifting women and ensuring their active participation in all sectors.

As part of the celebrations, two rallies will be organised on 8th March—one starting from Umakanta at 6:00 AM and another from Rabindra Bhaban at 7:30 AM. Additionally, a special women’s match will take place at Umakanta Stadium at 3:00 PM to mark the occasion.

Minister Roy emphasised the state government’s initiatives in empowering women and creating livelihood opportunities. He reiterated that education, employment, and healthcare remain key priorities in the government’s mission to uplift women across the state.

The celebration will focus on critical issues such as:
Women’s Education & Employment – Ensuring equal access to quality education and economic opportunities.
Healthcare & Awareness – Promoting better healthcare facilities, with special attention to issues like early pregnancy.
Ending Early Marriage – Raising awareness of the negative impacts of child marriage on a girl’s future.
Empowerment & Leadership – Encouraging women to take leadership roles and actively participate in decision-making processes.
Protection Against Exploitation – Strengthening laws and initiatives against sexual harassment, especially in workplaces and educational institutions.

Minister Roy reiterated that women’s empowerment is a top priority for the government, and various schemes have been introduced to provide financial assistance, vocational training, and self-employment opportunities. He urged women to dream big, achieve their goals, and contribute to the nation’s progress with dignity and respect.

Despite progress, challenges persist. Minister Roy acknowledged that gender equality is still a work in progress, and the government remains committed to addressing the issues that hinder women’s growth. He called upon all sections of society to support women’s empowerment and make the state a model for gender equality.
