Tripura Handloom Expo 2024-25 Inaugurated in Kailashahar





11 March 2024: Kailas Shahar : The prestigious Tripura Handloom Expo 2024-25 was formally inaugurated today at the ITI Complex ground in Kailashahar. Organized by the Department of Handloom, Handicrafts & Sericulture, Government of Tripura, with financial backing from the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, the event commenced with the traditional lamp-lighting ceremony performed by Minister for Social Welfare and Sports, Shri Tinku Roy.

The exhibition serves as a vital platform for showcasing Tripura's rich cultural heritage in handloom, handicrafts, and sericulture. Local artisans and weavers have been provided with a unique opportunity to display their exceptional craftsmanship, connect with potential buyers, and expand their market reach beyond traditional boundaries.

In his inaugural address, Minister Tinku Roy emphasized the government's unwavering commitment to empowering local weavers and artisans. He highlighted how initiatives like this expo are instrumental in preserving traditional crafts while simultaneously creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for the artisan community. The minister expressed confidence that the event would significantly boost the state's traditional textile sector and contribute to overall economic growth.

Visitors from across the region have been drawn to the expo, which features an impressive array of stalls displaying indigenous handloom products, exquisite silk fabrics, and intricately designed handicraft items. The exhibition showcases the diverse range of textiles and crafts that are unique to Tripura, including traditional motifs and designs that have been passed down through generations.

The Tripura Handloom Expo 2024-25 is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening the local handloom industry by creating direct market linkages between producers and consumers. By eliminating intermediaries, the event ensures that artisans receive fair compensation for their work while consumers gain access to authentic handcrafted products.
