TISF Demands Roman Script for Kokborok in Secondary Exams

Agartala, 18th March 2025: The Tripura Indigenous Students’ Federation (TISF) gathered at the Secondary Education Board today, reiterating their long-standing demand for the inclusion of the Roman script for the Kokborok language in secondary and higher secondary examinations.

A representative of the organisation stated that their appeal had been submitted to the education department multiple times, but no action had been taken. They accused the government of disregarding the sentiments of indigenous students by forcing them to write in a single script, primarily Bengali.

TISF members expressed their frustration over the continued neglect of their demand, alleging that both the Chief Minister and the Board President had been approached with deputations in the past, yet no initiative had been taken to address the issue. In response, they once again submitted their demand letter to the Board President, urging immediate action.

The organisation stressed that students should have the right to choose the script for their language and that enforcing one particular script undermines their cultural identity. They warned that if the demand for the Roman script is not accepted soon, they will intensify their movement to ensure their voices are heard.
