Over 500 Tripura Vidyut Nigam Contract Workers Protest Over Unpaid Salaries

Agartala, Mar 05: More than 500 employees working under the Tripura Vidyut Nigam through a private company, Advanced Route Technology Information Private Limited, staged a protest on Wednesday outside their employer’s office in Joy Nagar. The workers, who have been employed by the company for the past two years, raised serious concerns over the non-payment of their salaries for the last five months.

According to the protesting employees, they have only received partial payments during this period, with one month’s salary being disbursed sporadically instead of clearing the full backlog of dues. Despite repeated attempts to resolve the issue with company officials, no concrete steps have been taken to address their grievances. Frustrated by the lack of action, the workers decided to take collective action to demand their rightful wages.

The protesters issued a stern warning, stating that if their outstanding salaries are not settled within a week, they are prepared to escalate their demonstration into a larger-scale movement. The employees, who have been working diligently for the past two years, expressed their disappointment over the company’s failure to fulfil its basic obligations. They emphasised that the delay in salary payments has caused significant financial distress, making it difficult for them to meet their daily needs.

The protest saw participation from workers across various parts of the state, who gathered outside the company’s office to voice their demands. They remained steadfast in their call for an immediate resolution to the issue, highlighting the urgency of the situation. The workers also urged the authorities to intervene and ensure that their salaries are paid without further delay.

As of now, there has been no official response from the company regarding the demands of the protesting employees. The situation remains tense, with the workers determined to continue their protest until their grievances are addressed. Further updates are awaited as the employees and the company navigate this ongoing dispute.

This protest underscores the challenges faced by contract workers and the need for timely payment of wages to ensure their well-being and dignity. The employees’ collective action serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing labour rights issues promptly and effectively.
