In a major victory against the illegal drug trade, the East Agartala Police Station has arrested eight drug peddlers and seized a significant quantity of brown sugar in a targeted operation. The arrests were announced during a press conference on Wednesday by the Sadar Subdivision Police Officer, who credited the success to intelligence gathered from earlier interrogations of detained drug dealers.
Acting on the information, the police conducted raids across multiple locations in Agartala, including Lalmatia in Maharajganj Bazar, a park near MBB College, and an area close to Agartala Town Hall. These spots were identified as key hubs for drug trafficking. During the operation, the police confiscated large amounts of brown sugar, cash, and mobile phones from the suspects. The seized drugs are estimated to have a market value exceeding four lakh taka, dealing a significant blow to the local drug trade.
Following the arrests, the police filed a remand application to further interrogate the suspects. The goal is to uncover more details about the drug trafficking network operating in the region and identify larger syndicates involved in the trade. Authorities believe this operation marks a crucial step in dismantling organized drug networks in Agartala.
The East Agartala Police Station has reaffirmed its commitment to combating the city’s growing drug problem. They have also called on the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help curb the spread of illegal substances. This operation highlights the police’s proactive approach and their determination to create a safer, drug-free community.
