Agartala, March 11, 2025: An awareness workshop on the implementation of various projects was organized by the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education on Tuesday. The West District-based workshop took place at Pragya Bhavan in Agartala.
The program commenced with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp and watering of a plant on the stage after Minister Tinku Roy and other dignitaries were welcomed with due respect.
Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy inaugurated the workshop. The event was attended by Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Deepak Majumdar, West Tripura Zilla Parishad Vice-President Biswajit Shil, and other officials.
In his address, Minister Tinku Roy emphasized that the workshop was organized to ensure beneficiaries receive their rightful benefits properly. He explained that the workshop aimed to inform panchayat representatives and corporators about various schemes, which would facilitate smooth implementation of projects in the coming days.
The Minister highlighted several critical social issues requiring immediate attention. He expressed concern about Tripura having the highest rate of child marriage in the region, emphasizing the urgent need to spread awareness about this issue. Minister Roy also addressed the serious problem of child pregnancy in the state, which is closely linked to early marriages."Many welfare schemes are not reaching the intended beneficiaries due to lack of awareness," stated the Minister. He stressed that local representatives play a crucial role in disseminating information about government schemes to the public. "When our elected representatives are well-informed about various schemes, they can guide people better in accessing these benefits," he added.
A significant highlight of the event was the recognition ceremony where various beneficiaries, Anganwadi workers, and local clubs were awarded certificates for their outstanding achievements and contributions to community development. Several Anganwadi workers received special recognition for their dedication in implementing child nutrition programs and early education initiatives in rural areas. Local clubs were also honored for their active participation in social awareness campaigns, particularly those focused on preventing child marriage and promoting girl child education.
One of the awardees, Malati Deb, an Anganwadi worker from Khayerpur, expressed her gratitude for the recognition. "This encouragement motivates us to work harder for our community," she said. Similarly, Youth Forward Club from Ranirbazar was recognized for organizing over 50 awareness programs against child marriage in the past year.
The workshop included detailed presentations on various social welfare schemes run by the department, including those focused on women empowerment, child development, and assistance for differently-abled persons. Department officials provided comprehensive information about eligibility criteria, application procedures, and benefits available under each scheme.Interactive sessions were also conducted to address specific queries from the participants. Many panchayat members actively participated in these discussions, sharing their ground-level experiences and challenges faced during scheme implementation.
The initiative was widely appreciated by the attending local body representatives, who expressed that such awareness workshops would significantly enhance their ability to serve the community more effectively. The department plans to organize similar workshops in other districts of the state in the coming months.
