Agartala, February 20: The Tripura Literature Festival commenced on Friday with great enthusiasm, celebrating the rich literary heritage of the region and coinciding with International Mother Language Day. Organized by Udaan, a cultural and literary organization, the festival has drawn a diverse group of poets, writers, artists, and intellectuals from across India and abroad.
India’s first astronaut, Rakesh Sharma, arrived in Agartala on Thursday to attend the festival, adding a unique dimension to the event by connecting it to national pride and space exploration. Alongside him, Booker Prize-winning author Geetanjali Shree and other distinguished guests have also joined the festivities. A total of 17 prominent figures from the literary world are expected to participate, with the remaining guests arriving by Friday evening.
The festival, inaugurated by Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha at the Agartala Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan, features a range of activities, including discussions, poetry recitations, performances, and book presentations. These events aim to highlight Tripura’s literary heritage and foster a greater appreciation for literature and artistic expression.
Running until February 23, the festival promises to be a vibrant platform for the exchange of ideas, celebration of diverse languages, and promotion of cultural bonds within Tripura and beyond. It underscores the importance of language and literature in shaping society and strengthening cultural ties.
