Agartala, Feb 17: The Tripura Jan Adhikar Sangram Parishad announced a three-hour sit-in protest at Paradise Chowmuhani on February 20, highlighting 22 key demands. During a press conference today, the organisation’s leaders outlined their demands, focusing on issues ranging from minority rights to employment and social welfare.
The demands include stringent action against communal and hate-mongering elements, an end to state-sponsored attacks on religious minorities, particularly Muslims, and legal action against those involved in the Kaitarbari and Kadamtala incidents. The organisation also called for the restoration of encroached Waqf properties, the establishment of a Madrasa Board in the state, and the implementation of a 10% reservation for religious minorities as recommended by the Ranganath Mishra Commission.
Other demands include providing jobs or unemployment allowances to the youth, proper implementation of the Forest Rights Act 2006 to grant 25 kani of land to each tribal family, and ensuring multi-tier self-governance for all tribal communities. The organisation also sought proportional reservation for OBC communities in education, employment, and political representation.
For tea workers and Jharkhandi communities, the demands include allocating a minimum of 10 ganda of land, fixing wages at ₹600, and providing one paid holiday per week. The organisation also emphasised the need for education in minority languages and the establishment of minority language departments at Tripura University.
Additionally, the Parishad demanded the cancellation of debts for farmers, labourers, and marginalised communities, an increase in daily wages under MGNREGA to ₹600, and adequate compensation for victims of communal violence in Gandachhara, Kaitarbari, and Kadamtala. They also called for the regularisation of contractual workers, sanitation staff, and teachers under various government schemes.
The sit-in protest aims to draw attention to these pressing issues and urge the government to address them promptly. The organisation has appealed to the public to join the protest and support their cause for justice, equality, and development.
