Temple Renovation and Tourism Development Heralds New Era for Tripura

The historic Mata Tripura Sundari Temple, undergoing extensive renovation and reconstruction under the Prasad project, is set to be inaugurated in March 2025, marking a significant milestone in Tripura's cultural and tourism development. Minister Sushanta Chowdhury announced that either Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to preside over the inauguration ceremony, with formal invitations already extended by the Chief Minister during his current Delhi visit.

The temple renovation project, a flagship initiative since the BJP government assumed office, has received substantial financial support, with the Central Government contributing Rs 38 crore through the Prasad scheme, complemented by the state government's allocation of Rs 7 crore. This investment demonstrates the government's commitment to preserving and enhancing Tripura's cultural heritage.

In a comprehensive briefing, Minister Chowdhury outlined ambitious plans for transforming Tripura's tourism infrastructure through collaborations with the Government of India and the Asian Development Bank. A cornerstone of this development is the Rs 70 crore project at Sonamukhi in Unakoti, which will feature modern amenities including guest houses, log huts, and an ultra-modern park, designed to elevate the visitor experience.

The state's tourism vision extends to eco-tourism initiatives, with particular focus on developing the three islands of the Dombar reservoir. These projects, scheduled for completion within the next 12-18 months, represent a strategic approach to diversifying Tripura's tourism offerings.

This comprehensive development strategy reflects the government's vision to position Tripura as a premier tourist destination, combining cultural heritage preservation with modern tourism infrastructure. The initiatives are expected to significantly boost the state's tourism sector, creating new opportunities for economic growth and cultural exchange whilst preserving the region's rich heritage.
