A significant sports talent search event took place on Tuesday at Kamalghat Higher Secondary School ground in Mohanpur subdivision. The competition, which marked a new initiative for talent identification and development, was formally inaugurated by Minister Ratan Lal Nath.
The event featured carefully selected schoolboy athletes from the Mohanpur Municipal Council area and four block areas within the Mohanpur subdivision. This talent hunt was organised through a collaborative effort between the Youth Welfare and Sports Department, the Tripura School Sports Board, and the Mohanpur Panchayat Samiti.
Several notable figures graced the occasion, including Mohanpur Municipal Council Chairman Anita Debnath, Bamutia Panchayat Samiti Chairman Deepak Kumar Sinha, Mohanpur Panchayat Samiti Chairman Rakesh Deb, and Youth Welfare and Sports Department Joint Director Paimong Mog. Their presence underscored the importance given to youth sports development at the local governance level.
During his address, Minister Nath outlined the progressive structure of the competition, explaining that those who excel at the subdivision level would advance to district-level competitions, with district champions subsequently competing at the state level. He emphasised that this systematic approach to talent identification represented a novel initiative without precedent in the region.
The Minister placed particular emphasis on children as the nation's future, urging parents to maintain vigilant oversight of their children's development and activities. He articulated the collective responsibility of society in nurturing children to become responsible citizens, highlighting the role of structured sports in character development.
This event marks a significant step in the systematic identification and nurturing of sporting talent at the grassroots level. By implementing a structured progression from subdivision to state level, authorities aim to create a sustainable pathway for young athletes while ensuring no talented individual goes unnoticed due to geographical limitations.
The initiative reflects a growing recognition of sports as an integral component of youth development and community building, with local governance structures actively participating in the process.
