Critical Concerns Raised Over Budget Allocations and Welfare Schemes
The Left Front has launched a scathing criticism of the 2025 Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, labelling it as "planless" and "careless." At a press conference held at the CPI(M) state office in Agartala, Left Front state committee convener Narayan Kar expressed significant concerns about the budget's direction and priorities.
Leadership and Timing Questioned
The Front particularly criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi's absence during the crucial parliamentary session, questioning his foreign tour timing. They alleged that key government decisions are predominantly controlled by PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, raising concerns about the democratic process.
Tax Exemption Concerns
A major point of contention is the proposed tax exemption of up to Rs 12 lakh. The Left Front raised serious questions about the funding source for this initiative, expressing concerns that it might be financed by diverting funds from essential welfare schemes like MGNREGA and ICDS.
Cuts in Critical Sectors
The budget has faced criticism for reducing allocations in several crucial areas:
- Rs 3,000 crore reduction in Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana
- Decreased funding for Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana
- Significant cuts in rural development allocations
Alternative Proposals
In response to these concerns, the Left Front announced plans to present an alternative budget proposal. Their approach aims to:
- Prioritize employment generation
- Focus on infrastructure development
- Promote industrial growth
- Strengthen agricultural support systems
The Left Front has committed to raising awareness about these issues both within and outside Parliament, emphasizing the need for a more balanced approach to national development and welfare schemes.
