FPO Fair Inaugurated at Purbasha Ground, Showcases Tripura’s Unique Agri Products

Agartala, 16th February 2025: The FPO Fair was inaugurated today at Purbasha Ground by Minister Ratan Lal Nath, along with Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder, Rajeeb Bhattacharya, and other dignitaries. The event saw the participation of numerous agricultural officials and farmers from across Tripura, showcasing a variety of unique agricultural products. Stalls displayed organic vegetables, millets, grains, and Tripura’s specialty products like Black Rice and Kali Khasar Rice, highlighting the state’s rich agricultural diversity.

The fair is part of the Indian government’s initiative to form 10,000 Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) nationwide, aimed at empowering small and marginal farmers. FPOs enable farmers to collectively enhance production, processing, and marketing, ensuring fair prices and reducing middlemen exploitation. Since its launch in 2020, the scheme has established 8,875 FPOs, including 57 in Tripura, covering nearly all blocks in the state.

The initiative focuses on improving farmers’ access to markets, increasing productivity, and promoting sustainable farming practices. By adopting modern techniques and fostering agri-based entrepreneurship, the scheme aims to boost farmers’ incomes and strengthen the agricultural ecosystem.

Minister Ratan Lal Nath emphasised the transformative potential of FPOs in enhancing farmers’ livelihoods and contributing to the nation’s economic growth. The fair not only provided a platform for farmers to market their produce but also highlighted the success of Tripura’s FPOs in promoting local agricultural products.

The event underscored the government’s commitment to empowering farmers through collective efforts, training, and market linkages, ensuring a brighter future for Indian agriculture.
