Agartala, Monday: The Tripura Brick Kiln Workers’ Union submitted a deputation to the Labour Commissioner, pressing a nine-point demand for better wages and working conditions. General Secretary Tapan Das elaborated on their demands in a press conference.
The key demands include a minimum 10% wage hike for brick kiln workers this year and the construction of permanent housing for those still living in temporary shelters. The union also urged the government to ensure clean drinking water, sanitation, medical supplies, cooking fuel, and electricity in workers’ quarters.
Additionally, they demanded social security measures for all workers, including maternity benefits for female workers, proper wage disbursement, and educational facilities for migrant workers’ children. They also called for infrastructure development and regular inspections of brick kilns by labour officials.
The union has urged the state government to act swiftly to address these pressing issues.
