Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 13, 2024, the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana aims to achieve 500 gigawatts of solar power generation by 2030. So far, 200 gigawatts of solar power generation has been achieved nationwide. Under this scheme, residential consumers can install solar panels on their rooftops, with a maximum capacity of 3 kilowatts. Excess electricity generated can be sold to the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited.

The scheme offers subsidies for solar panel installations: ₹33,000 per kilowatt for the first kilowatt, ₹66,000 for the first two kilowatts, and a maximum subsidy of ₹85,800 for 3 kilowatts. The initiative aims to promote renewable energy and reduce electricity costs for households while contributing to environmental sustainability.
