The Tripura Charma Shilpi Samiti organized a significant state-level convention at Bhanu Ghosh Memorial Hall on Monday, bringing together leather artisans and community leaders to address pressing issues affecting their community. The convention served as a platform to voice concerns and present demands for social and economic justice.

A central focus of the gathering was the condemnation of disrespectful remarks made about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, reflecting the community's commitment to protecting their cultural and constitutional heritage. The organization presented an 11-point charter of demands, highlighting critical needs of the leather artisan community. Key demands included enhanced stipends for artisans, expanded employment opportunities in both public and private sectors, and the protection of existing reservation rights.

The event saw participation from prominent community leaders, with Nanku Rabidas, the organization's president, and state secretary Bipad Bandhu Biswas leading the proceedings. Notable guest speaker Sudhan Das, general secretary of the Tripura Scheduled Caste Coordination Committee, delivered an impactful address highlighting systemic challenges faced by leather artisans.

In his speech, Das emphasized the crucial importance of community unity in the fight for constitutional rights. He detailed how collective action could help address long-standing issues affecting the leather artisan community's social and economic well-being. The leaders collectively urged the government to take immediate action on their demands, emphasizing the need for concrete steps toward improving the community's conditions.
