Police Return Stolen Gold Chain to Elderly Victim in Agartala




In a successful resolution to a chain-snatching case, the West Agartala Police have recovered and returned a stolen gold chain to its rightful owner, Shankari Sen, an elderly resident of the Kamanachowmuhani area. The incident, which occurred on November 10, 2025, had caused significant concern in the local community.


The victim was targeted during her morning walk between 7:00 and 7:30 AM when the accused, operating a tom-tom (auto-rickshaw), snatched her gold chain. Ms. Sen immediately reported the incident to the West Agartala Police Station, where a case was registered under Sections 153/02024 and 304 of the Indian Penal Code.


Through swift investigation and coordinated efforts, the police successfully apprehended the accused, identified as Debrata Das. The investigating team also seized the vehicle used in the crime, which served as crucial evidence. The recovered gold chain was formally returned to Ms. Sen at the West Agartala Police Station, bringing relief to the victim and her family.


This incident highlights the vulnerability of elderly citizens to street crimes and the importance of community vigilance. The quick resolution of the case demonstrates the efficiency of the Tripura Police in addressing street crimes and their commitment to protecting senior citizens.


The successful recovery and return of the stolen property has helped reinforce public confidence in law enforcement. The police's prompt action in this case serves as a deterrent to potential criminals and reassures residents about the safety measures in place within the city.
