Former CM Attacks Ruling Coalition and Opposition at GMP Rally

Former Tripura Chief Minister and Communist Party of India (Marxist) Politburo member Manik Sarkar launched a scathing critique of the state's political landscape during a mass rally organized by Ganamukti Parishad in Agartala. Speaking at a pre-planned Raj Bhavan march, Sarkar directed his criticism at the ruling BJP-IPFT coalition and the opposition party Tipra Motha.

The veteran communist leader accused the BJP-led government of failing to deliver on its 2018 electoral promises, particularly highlighting the pressing issue of unemployment in the state. Sarkar drew attention to the current administration's handling of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), pointing out problems with stagnant wages and limited working days for beneficiaries.

In his address, Sarkar provided a comparative analysis between the current administration and the previous Left Front government's recruitment policies, suggesting a deterioration in employment opportunities under the present regime. The former Chief Minister's criticism extended beyond the ruling coalition to include Tipra Motha, whom he blamed for dividing the anti-BJP votes during the 2023 elections, effectively facilitating the BJP's return to power.

The rally marked a significant moment in Tripura's opposition politics, with Sarkar calling for unified resistance against what he termed as "autocratic rule." He urged the public to exercise caution and skepticism towards political promises, drawing from his critique of unfulfilled commitments made by the current government.

The event, which culminated in a march towards the Raj Bhavan, demonstrated the continuing influence of the CPIM in Tripura's political discourse, despite being in opposition. Sarkar's address highlighted the growing tensions between the state's major political forces and underscored the ongoing debate over governance and development issues in Tripura.

The rally also reflected the complex political dynamics in Tripura, where traditional left forces are attempting to rebuild their base while criticizing both the ruling coalition and newer political entities. Sarkar's speech emphasized the need for political unity among opposition forces to effectively challenge the current government's policies.
