In a successful joint operation conducted by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF), two individuals were apprehended at Agartala Railway Station in connection with drug trafficking activities. The operation resulted in the seizure of ₹8.3 lakh, suspected to be proceeds from illegal drug trade on long-distance trains.

The arrested individuals were identified as Mohammad Mehedi Hasan Nazmul, a 20-year-old resident of Kulubari, Daud Dhani area in Sonamura, Sepahijala, and Shaheena Akhtar, 30, from Charilam, Aralia area in Bishalgarh, Sepahijala. During the search operation, authorities recovered ₹6.3 lakh from Nazmul and ₹2 lakh from Akhtar.

The arrests highlight the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in combating drug trafficking through railway routes. The significant amount of cash recovered suggests a well-established drug distribution network operating through the railway system.

Both suspects are being charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and are scheduled to appear before the court. Law enforcement officials indicate that this arrest might lead to further developments in the case, suggesting the possibility of a larger network operating in the region.

This successful operation demonstrates the effectiveness of coordinated efforts between different law enforcement agencies in tackling drug-related crimes. The GRP and RPF's vigilance and cooperation have proven crucial in intercepting drug trafficking operations that utilize railway networks for transportation and distribution.
