AGARTALA, Dec 11 - In a significant anti-narcotics operation, East Agartala Police intercepted two women from Bihar while attempting to smuggle approximately 8.4 kg of dry ganja through the Jogendranagar Railway Station.
The successful raid was led by Women Inspector Kamala Mura Singh, Narayan De, and Officer-in-Charge Shyamal Debnath of the East Agartala Police Station. Acting on specific intelligence about an inter-state drug trafficking network, the team conducted a meticulous search at the station.
The arrested women, identified as Putul Devi and Sangeeta Devi Mandal, were carrying 15 packets of ganja, destined for transportation to Bihar. Reliable sources revealed that the duo was part of a larger smuggling operation that procures ganja from areas like Sidhai and Sonamura, using small three or four-wheeled vehicles to transport the contraband to railway station agents.
Investigations suggest a sophisticated inter-state drug trafficking mechanism operating between Tripura and Bihar. Local agents at Jogendranagar and Bahargarh railway stations have been identified as key facilitators in this smuggling network. The women were allegedly collecting ganja at high market prices for onward transportation to drug merchants in Bihar.
Police believe the operation reveals a significant drug smuggling route that uses local transporters as unwitting carriers. The intercepted ganja, valued at a substantial amount, represents a major blow to the drug trafficking network.
East Agartala Police Station's Officer-in-Charge Rana Chatterjee stated that the two women would be produced in court, with the police planning to seek a remand to further investigate the broader drug trafficking network.
The arrest underscores the continued efforts of local law enforcement to disrupt drug trafficking and protect community safety.
