Agartala, December 20, 2024 - Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Tripura today to chair the 72nd Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council (NEC), marking a historic first for the state as it hosts this prestigious regional gathering. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha welcomed Shah with traditional Risha and flowers at the Agartala airport.
The two-day session, scheduled for December 20-21 at Pragna Bhavan, brings together chief ministers and governors from across the northeastern states. The meeting aims to address crucial developmental initiatives and strategic planning for the region's growth.
Upon arrival, Shah's first engagement was a party leadership meeting at Hotel Polo Towers in Agartala. His itinerary includes the bhumi pujan ceremony for a new BJP party office in Nutan Nagar, near MBB Airport. State Minister Tinku Roy confirmed that the proposed G+4 building will be constructed on approximately 1-2 kani of land, replacing the current office in Krishnanagar.
On December 22, the Home Minister will meet with Reang refugees in Ambassa, Dhalai district, followed by an event at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala. The city has undergone extensive beautification in preparation for these high-profile events.
Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, who serves as NEC Vice Chairman, will join the proceedings. The session's agenda encompasses infrastructure development, economic initiatives, and sustainable resource management strategies for the northeastern region.
The meeting has drawn attention amid protests from Congress and CPIM regarding recent comments about Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. However, local administration has ensured robust security arrangements for the smooth conduct of all scheduled events.
Through this plenary session, the NEC aims to strengthen regional cooperation and accelerate the northeast's development trajectory.
