Border Security Force Marks 60 Years: A Decade of Dedication and Vigilance










In a stirring commemoration of its 60th Raising Day on 1 December 2024, the Border Security Force (BSF) reflected on its remarkable journey of protecting India's frontiers, with a special focus on the Tripura Frontier's extraordinary achievements.


The celebration, graced by Tripura's Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha, highlighted the BSF's unwavering commitment to national security and cross-border challenges.


## Historical Context and Mission


Established in 1965, the BSF has consistently embodied its motto "Life to Duty" (Till Death), demonstrating exceptional courage and professionalism in safeguarding India's borders.


In Tripura, the force has played a critical role in combating frontier insurgencies, maintaining border sanctity, and preventing transborder crimes in challenging terrains, including malaria-prone regions with adverse climatic conditions.


## Remarkable Achievements in 2024


### Enhanced Border Surveillance


The BSF's meticulous monitoring resulted in significant seizures:

- 1,383 cattle heads recovered

- Narcotics seizures including:

  - 66,316 bottles of Phensediol

  - 9,203.24 kg of Cannabis

  - 605,334 Yaba tablets

  - 1,222,894.5 kg of Sugar

  - 496.26 grams of Gold


### Operational Successes


The force successfully apprehended:

- 55 Rohingya illegal immigrants

- 620 Bangladeshi nationals

- 260 Indian citizens


A remarkable joint operation resulted in the destruction of approximately 835,800 cannabis plants across 301.31 acres of illegally occupied land.


## Community Engagement and National Unity


Beyond security operations, the BSF conducted extensive civic action programmes:

- Free medical camps

- Skill development training

- Sports tournaments

- Cultural activities


Approximately 700 border coordination meetings were organised, fostering community relationships.


## Promoting National Integration


Across Tripura, the BSF organised events including:

- Band performances

- Weapon exhibitions

- Motorcycle rallies

- School border visits

- Tree plantation drives

- Unity runs

- Blood donation camps


## Bilateral Cooperation


A significant Border Coordination Conference was held in Shillong, Meghalaya, in July 2024, focusing on enhancing coordination between border guarding forces and maintaining friendly bilateral relations.


## Crisis Response


During recent instabilities in Bangladesh, the BSF played a crucial role in:

- Coordinating with multiple agencies

- Ensuring safe return of Indian students and workers

- Providing comprehensive support

- Extending humanitarian assistance during flood situations


## Leadership Perspective


Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha commended the BSF's dedication, releasing the "Gajraj" magazine and paying tribute to martyrs who sacrificed their lives protecting the nation.

The Tripura Frontier of the Border Security Force remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting international borders, ensuring state security, and maintaining close coordination with all stakeholders.

  Tripura marked the 76th Republic Day with a grand celebration at Assam Rifles Ground, Agartala.
