Demand for Recognition of Bru Language and Holiday on Hajagiri Day Discusse

AGARTALA, November 11, 2024 - In a significant move towards cultural preservation and linguistic rights, a high-level meeting convened at the TFDPIC conference hall near Circuit House addressed the pressing demands of the Reang community for official recognition of the Bru (Kau Bru) language and the declaration of Hajagiri Day as a state holiday.

The gathering brought together a diverse array of stakeholders, including MLAs, MDCs, community intellectuals, cultural artists, and government officials, highlighting the broad-based support for these cultural initiatives.

Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath, speaking at the meeting, expressed unwavering support for the community's aspirations. "Language is not just a medium of communication; it's the soul of cultural identity," Nath emphasized, aligning the state's position with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of preserving India's linguistic diversity.

The minister highlighted several key aspects of the government's commitment:

- Preservation of tribal languages as cultural heritage

- Promotion of mother tongue-based education

- Integration of regional languages into the educational system

- Protection of linguistic diversity across the state

The demand for recognizing Hajagiri Day as a state holiday represents another significant aspect of cultural preservation, acknowledging the festival's importance in Reang community traditions.

Community representatives shared their perspectives on the vital role of language in maintaining cultural identity and ensuring intergenerational transmission of traditional knowledge. They emphasized how official recognition would strengthen educational opportunities and cultural preservation efforts.

The BJP-led state government's supportive stance aligns with the broader national policy of promoting regional languages and protecting tribal cultural heritage. This initiative reflects a growing recognition of the importance of linguistic diversity in India's cultural fabric.

The meeting concluded with a positive outlook towards implementing these demands, marking a significant step forward in Tripura's commitment to preserving its rich cultural mosaic.
