On Sunday night when Border Security Force (BSF) personnel fatally shot a 48-year-old man suspected of involvement in cattle smuggling.

In Tripura's Sonamura Sub-division, a tragic incident unfolded on Sunday night when Border Security Force (BSF) personnel fatally shot a 48-year-old man named Alamgir Hossain, suspected of involvement in cattle smuggling. The incident took place in Durgapur village, situated along the international border with Bangladesh.

Reports suggest that a group of alleged cattle smugglers was in the midst of transporting cows to Bangladesh when BSF No. 133 battalion soldiers came across the scene. An attempt to apprehend the smugglers led to a confrontation, during which the BSF personnel were reportedly attacked. In response, the BSF opened fire, causing Alamgir Hossain, who was allegedly connected to the smuggling operation, to succumb to his injuries on the spot.

Local residents rushed Alamgir to the Sonamura Social Health Centre, where he was pronounced dead by attending physicians. However, Alamgir's family strongly maintains his innocence in the cattle smuggling operation.

According to the family, when the BSF pursued the smugglers, they sought refuge near Alamgir's residence near the border. It was during this pursuit that Alamgir, an innocent bystander, tragically lost his life. The family is deeply distressed by the actions of the BSF and finds it unbearable to continue living in the area due to what they perceive as persecution. They are calling for strict action against the BSF personnel, whom they believe did not carry out their duties diligently and caused the unnecessary loss of an innocent life. The family intends to pursue legal action against the BSF in response to this tragic incident.
