Press release By Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Sri Tinku Roy

Story By SAm William:, In a significant press release held at the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports in Agartala, Tripura, on the 15th of September, 2023, Sri Tinku Roy, the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, unveiled a visionary initiative to combat the growing menace of drug addiction that has been plaguing not only Tripura but also the entire North-Eastern region of India. The minister introduced a comprehensive action plan named "Khelo Tripura Sangal Tripura" aimed at liberating the youth from the clutches of drug addiction, fostering a healthier and more prosperous society, and substantially reducing the dependence on drugs in people's daily lives.

Sri Tinku Roy's announcement comes at a critical time when drug addiction has become a pressing issue in India, with the North-Eastern states being particularly affected. In Parvati Tripura, the situation is no different, and the government has recognized the urgency of addressing this crisis.

The core objective of "Khelo Tripura Sangal Tripura" is to create a drug-free society by targeting the youth, who are the most vulnerable to addiction. To execute this ambitious project effectively, the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of Tripura, is launching a Drug-Free Campaign across the state, with a special focus on the upcoming Durga Puja festival.

During the festive season of Durga Puja, the department will collaborate with Durga Puja organizing clubs in every district, sub-division, and block area of Tripura. These clubs are encouraged to actively engage in raising awareness and sensitizing the public about the perils of drug addiction. They are urged to adopt various strategies, including the creation of awareness exhibitions featuring display boards, posters, flex banners, and other materials with the central theme of "Puja Pondel" (Drug-Free Puja). These exhibitions aim to inspire and educate the masses about the importance of a drug-free and healthy youth society.

Minister Sri Tinku Roy emphasized the pivotal role that Durga Puja organizing clubs will play in implementing this noble initiative. These clubs, deeply rooted in their respective communities, are uniquely positioned to reach a broad audience and influence positive change. As a token of appreciation and encouragement, the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports has pledged to review and reward the programs initiated by these clubs during the Durga Puja celebrations. This incentive not only recognizes their dedication but also motivates them to excel in their efforts.

Furthermore, the minister extended a warm invitation to all Durga Puja organizing clubs across the state to actively participate in this anti-drug campaign. Their participation will not only contribute to a drug-free Tripura but also serve as an inspiring example for other regions grappling with similar issues.

In conclusion, Sri Tinku Roy's announcement signifies a significant step towards eradicating the scourge of drug addiction from Tripura and sets a precedent for the entire nation. The "Khelo Tripura Sangal Tripura" initiative, in collaboration with Durga Puja organizing clubs, holds the promise of a brighter, healthier future for the youth of Tripura, making it a beacon of hope in the fight against drug addiction in India.
