The Officer-in-Charge of GRP, Uttam Kumar Kalai, disclosed that the suspect, identified as Bishik Chakma, a resident of Karbook in the Gomati District, was detained in possession of these two firearms.
Acting on prior intelligence, the authorities conducted a search on a train traveling from Silchar to Agartala. This operation unveiled Chakma's involvement in a high-stakes arms trade, as he had acquired two pistols from Dimapur in Nagaland. The estimated value of these weapons was substantial, with one valued at Rs 45,000 and the other at Rs 4,000. According to the OC, Chakma's intent was to sell these arms in Bangladesh.
This arrest represents Chakma's second encounter with law enforcement, as he had previously faced apprehension in 2020. The successful operation by the GRP underscores their commitment to curbing illicit arms trafficking and maintaining security in the region.
